- General Membership MeetingSpeaker: Dr. Andrew Jackson| Location: | JJ North's Country Buffet 1312 N. Scottsdale Rd (Just south of McDowell Road) Scottsdale, AZ |

As an advocate for the religious clauses of the first amendment of the Constitution, Dr. Jackson will talk about
(1) the definition of the term “religion” and its application to the religious clauses of the first amendment
(2) the historical and modern usage of the phrase, “separation of Church and State”
(3) his concern how this phrase discriminates against the Christian Church resulting in the neglect of other religions that are active in the public square
(4) and how this phrase is out-of-date in light of the America’s multi-religious society.
His goal is to further respectful discussion between Christian leaders and organizations active in protecting America from endorsing the establishment of a religion.
Dr. Andrew Jackson earned his bachelor, masters and doctorate degrees in Bible and Christian theology.
He grew up in Seattle and served for over 25 years as a
Protestant pastor (ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church)
in two very large churches, and as a seminary professor.
Although he has traveled worldwide and experienced the regions of all major religions,
his specialties are the Islamic nation of Turkey and the Middle East.
Today, his primary focus is on writing and teaching world religions at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
His wife, Barbara, is an emergency room nurse, and he has three adult children and three grandchildren.

"For those interested in the emerging new “Evolutionary Christianity”, please see the event below sponsored by the Arizona Foundation for Contemporary Theology. It is indeed a very positive step when religions outspokenly embrace evolution, versus trying to deny it!"
Anne Mardick
President
AU Greater Phoenix Chapter
Everything and everybody is involved in a sacred, evolutionary process, including the Christian faith. What might it look like for a church to consciously embrace and celebrate the "blessed unrest" that is coursing through us as a work of Spirit? We have more questions than answers at this point, and that's part of the adventure.
Bruce Sanguin
The Reverend Bruce Sanguin

He is the author of five books, including If Darwin Prayed: Prayers for Evolutionary Mystics and Darwin, Divinity and the Dance of the Cosmos: an Ecological Christianity.
