Church State Issues

Flagstaff police enforce religious laws???

Mar 15, 2013

Arizona Daily Sun

If you ask me the victimless crime of having consensual sex is something that belongs in a religious theocracy, not a democracy that preaches separation of church and state.

Bible college student charged in sex case

A 21-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after the dean of Indian Bible College in Flagstaff escorted the student to the police station so he could tell detectives he was having sex with his 17-year-old girlfriend.

The girl is also a student at the bible college, 2918 N. Aris St., according to information from police.

According to a police report, the man told officers that their relationship was consensual and that they had been together for about five months.

He now faces three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, a class 6 felony, according to Coconino County jail records.

If convicted, a class 6 felony carries a presumptive prison sentence of one year in prison, but the offense is probation eligible.

The man's name has been withheld at the request of Flagstaff police officials to avoid identifying the victim.
