Church State Issues

Instead of editing textbook, can't teachers explain?

Nov 3, 2014

Arizona Republic

Personally I think Joan Klein is right.

But the purpose of the law that is the center of this controversy in Gilbert, is not about educating the children, but rather shoving the Christian religion down their throats by blindly telling them the Christian religions view on these things.

Instead of editing textbook, can't teachers explain?

Regarding "Gilbert to 'edit' biology textbook" (Republic, Thursday):

I cannot help wondering where the district's teachers are. Is it not their job to explain, clarify and expand upon textbook material?

Couldn't they discuss, in class, the topic of childbirth to include adoption options? That seems to me to be a more intelligent approach to this issue, rather than "removing" a page of their textbook?
